Zanzibar is obviously a renowned holiday destination because of it’s long list of historical events on this portion of east coast of Africa. It comprises the main Unguja (Zanzibar) Island on the south, the smaller one Pemba situated on the north as well as Tumbatu, Kojani and several other surrounding tiny islets. The total surface area for the first two is 4,891 sq km and the current population is estimated to be a million and a half.Politically Zanzibar is a part of Tanzania with a partial autonomy on internal matters related to economic affairs. The Islands are reputed to be rich in history and Swahili traditional cultures. Around the eighteenth century, Zanzibar became an important pivotal centre of trading in ivory, spices and slaves connecting other countries in the east and central corridors of Africa. That was the era when the Omani sultan shifted his capital to Zanzibar in order to gain a full control of all available economic potentials. In a long run his rule successfully flourished which earned him greater influence and dominance. Consequently his kingdom expanded from Muscat (north) to Mozambique (southwards).
