Itinerary
Day: 1
Transfer from kigali, rwanda to bwindi national park in uganda
A bamboo ecotoursdriver-guide will pick you up in kigali and drive to bwindi national park. The drive to uganda will go through rwanda`s northern town of ruhengeri. You will then cross over into uganda via cyanika or katuna border post. The trip continues through the nearby kisoro or kabale town and finally to bwindi national park. The journey from kigali to bwindi national park will take approximately 4-5 hrs. Arriving at bwindi national park early afternoon will allow you to do optional activities such as hiking, visiting the batwa community, coffee-making experience, etc
Day: 2
gorilla trekking adventure at bwindi national park
You will head to the bwindi national park gate immediately after breakfast to get a briefing about the gorilla trek. The national park guide will conduct the presentation that covers the basics of what to expect during the gorilla trek. The national guide will assign the gorilla trekking group during the pre-trekking briefing. Other visitors will likely join you. The gorilla trek can take from few to many hours, depending on how far the gorillas are inside the forest.
Day: 3
transfer to virunga national park in democratic republic of congo
We will transfer from bwindi national park and drive to the dr congo grande barriere at goma. You will clear with both rwanda and drc immigration, after that, check in with the virunga national park tourism office. Here you will receive your nyiragongo volcano hiking permits. Overnight in gisenyi/lake kivu area
Day: 4
transfer from goma to kibati ranger post and ascend nyiragongo volcano
You will be transported to the nyiragongo hike trailhead at kibati ranger post by virunga national park staff. When you arrive at kibati at 8:15 am, you will get introduced to the rangers and get an opportunity to hire a porter for the hike. The hike to the summit of nyiragongo volcano will take between four to six hours. Stay overnight at the summit of the volcano
Day: 5
descend nyiragongo volcano and drive to kigali, rwanda
On day 5, you will leave the nyiragongo volcano summit and descend back to the kibati ranger post. The average trekking time from the mountain top to the base of the volcano is 4 hrs. From the kibati gate, you will transfer to goma grande barriere, still using the virunga national park vehicle. You will find the bamboo ecotours driver/guide waiting for you at the goma border post. We will immediately clear with both the drc and rwanda immigration and drive back to kigali for overnight
